Ever wondered what the EU has done for Monaghan?
- Monaghan’s infrastructure has improved greatly as a result of EU funding.
- Monaghan’s road network has seen great improvements, with projects that have benefited from EU funding including the N2 Carrickmacross bypass, the Monaghan bypass, the N2 improvements at Castleblaney Road, the N54 and the reconstruction of Clonfad bridge. In addition, practically every non-national road in Monaghan has been improved with support from the EU.
- EU funding has helped improve waste management facilities in Monaghan, with EU funding provided for civic amenity sites at Carrickmacross and Cornacass, as well as bring bank sites around the county.
- Drinking water quality and sewage management schemes across Monaghan have also received financial support from the EU, with projects in Annyalla, Cremartin, Corkeeran and Stranooden among other places benefiting.
- Monaghan Town, Carrickmacross, Castleblaney and Clones have gained improved access to broadband and high-speed internet services with the support of EU funding.
- EU funding has also been used to boost tourism throughout Monaghan, with numerous projects receiving financial assistance from the EU.
- Village and urban renewal schemes, and the EU supported LEADER program, have boosted the quality of life of people across the county and have helped to diversify the rural economy.
- €22 million has also been invested in increasing childcare facilities and access throughout Monaghan.
- The European Social Fund has benefited Monaghan by investing in the county’s people through youth programs, adult education, employment initiatives and many more schemes.
- The Monaghan County Enterprise Board, which has benefited from EU funding, has helped start-up and growing businesses across the county.
