Meath County Report
Since Ireland joined the EU in 1973, Meath has benefited greatly from EU funding and investment.
- Improving Meath’s infrastructure. EU funding helped to complete the Trim ring-road, Ashbourne by-pass and the Navan to Balrath road.
- Meath has also benefited from improved waste management facilities, water treatment centres and improved drinking water quality with the help of EU funding.
- The new East-West electricity interconnector, which will be located at Woodlands in Meath, is set to receive €110 million in EU funds.
- Bettystown, Navan, Dunboyne, Crossakiel and Rathmoylan have all benefited from village and urban renewal schemes that received EU support.
- County Meath has benefited from the LEADER program, which aims to improve the rural quality of life, and diversify the rural economy.
- €22 million has been invested into improving childcare facilities and access across Meath.
- The European Social Fund has benefited Meath by investing in the county’s people through youth programs, adult education, employment initiatives and many more schemes.
- The Navan and Kells enterprise centres have also benefited from EU financial support and helped businesses start-up and grow.
