- Cavan’s infrastructure has improved significantly as a result of EU funding.
Cavan’s road infrastructure has benefited greatly, with examples including the N3 Cavan/Dublin Road, the N55 Cavan/Athlone Road, various sections of the N54, the N87, the Cavan Town bypass and the Virginia bypass.
- Additionally, non-national roads in Cavan have also benefited from EU funding.
- Cavan has also gained better waste management facilities with EU funding supporting civic amenity centres at Bailieborough, Ballyconnell and Corranure as well as bring bank sites around the county.
- EU funding has also played a role in improving water quality and access via the Rural Water Scheme which has benefited numerous towns and villages in Cavan.
- Broadband infrastructure in Cavan has also received a boost with EU funding playing a role in improving local access to high-speed internet.
- Village and urban renewal schemes, and the EU supported LEADER program, have boosted the quality of life of people across the county and have helped to diversify the rural economy.
- €16 million has also been invested in increasing childcare facilities and access throughout Cavan.
- As a participant in the EU cross border cooperation programme INTERREG, Cavan has benefited from EU funding aimed at bringing border communities closer together. Through this programme, some €30 million has been allocated to border counties in order to improve cross border health services and access.
- The European Social Fund has benefited Cavan by investing in the county’s people through youth programs, adult education, employment initiatives and many more schemes.
- The Cavan County Enterprise Board, which has benefited from EU funding, has helped start-up and growing businesses across the county.
